"Deuce" is owned by
Joe Scarpy, who is an avid hunter and bow hunter. Joe bought Deuce as
a companion and as a hunting replacement for "Brandy",
his year old chocolate lab
who developed hip problems during her first hunting season. Once Joe began
working with Deuce, he found Deuce such a great hunter that he quickly became hooked,
not just on hunting, but on hunting championships as well. Joe reports that Deuce was not only hunting efficiently at a young age, but with great control.
Deuce points regularly, and after pointing he reliably flushes the bird on
command and
is steady to wing and shot.
Joe says that Deuce's exceptionally strong retrieving drive makes Deuce his "lean, mean, speed
machine", and at the year 2001 U.S. Open Pheasant Championships, several
judges complemented Deuce as "the best working dog they had yet seen":
